The Phoenix Canariensis, also known as the Canary Date Palm, is an imposing and majestic palm tree belonging to the palm family (Arecaceae). Native to the Canary Islands, this species is valued worldwide as the ultimate, regal eye-catcher for gardens and parks.

It is an evergreen, very robust and tree-like plant that falls under the category of exotic palms and Mediterranean trees. This large size is an instant symbol of sun, luxury and warmth and instantly creates a tropical or Mediterranean atmosphere in any outdoor space.

This is a mature and architectural plant that has already developed a substantial, thick trunk, with a lush, dense crown of long, pinnate, dark green leaves (fronds). It is popular for its imposing size, strong exotic appearance and its ability to thrive in many different climates worldwide.

The Phoenix Canariensis in this format already has a sturdy, woody trunk that is thicker in the base, often with a rough texture due to the remnants of old petioles. The crown consists of long, graceful, pinnate leaves (fronds) that are deep green in color and form a full, round, and majestic silhouette. The appearance is that of a mature, tropical tree.

The Canary Date Palm is an indispensable addition to a sun-drenched landscape. It needs plenty of sunlight and does best in a sunny, well-drained location. Outdoors: This is the ideal spot for this large palm. Place it where it catches direct sunlight all day, such as on a spacious patio, by the pool or in the open ground in a temperate to Mediterranean climate. Although this palm is somewhat frost-resistant, if there is a prolonged or severe frost, potted specimens in colder, temperate regions should be additionally protected or temporarily overwintered indoors. Indoors: Can only be temporarily placed indoors for overwintering if in a very bright, unheated area.

The Phoenix Canariensis, especially in this large size, needs moderate and regular watering during the growing season (spring to fall). Allow the top layer of potting soil to dry thoroughly between waterings. Although the tree can withstand drought well, adequate water promotes growth and crown health. Always provide excellent drainage, especially for potted specimens, to prevent root rot.
