Type
Mediterranean trees

The Olea 'Lorc' is a cultivar type of the Olea europaea (European olive tree), a species belonging to the Olive family (Oleaceae). The plant is traditionally native to the Mediterranean region and is known worldwide for its symbolism and durability.

Characteristics: It is an evergreen, slow-growing tree that has a robust and characterful appearance. The tree develops a thick, often gnarled trunk with a dense canopy of lanceolate leaves. The leaves of the olive tree are a distinctive silvery green and are popular for their low-maintenance nature and high tolerance to drought.

Appearance icon Appearance

The Olea 'Lorc' is a robust and characterful olive tree (Olea europaea) that immediately evokes a Mediterranean atmosphere. The tree is characterized by a sturdy, often irregularly shaped trunk that becomes thicker and rougher with age. A full, compact crown adorns the top of the trunk. The leaves are small, narrow, and have a beautiful, shiny dark green color on the upper side and a silvery gray underside. This creates an elegant contrast when the wind blows through the leaves. With a height of 200 cm, this is a mature, stylish eye-catcher.

Location icon Location

The olive tree loves the sun and thrives best in a sunny, warm, and sheltered spot. It needs at least six hours of direct sunlight per day to grow well and bear fruit. Plant the tree in the ground or in a pot on the patio or balcony, preferably against a south-facing wall that provides extra warmth. The 'Lorc' is moderately hardy (often down to approx. -7°C). In a pot, the root ball needs extra protection during severe or prolonged frost (e.g., with fleece or in a cool, frost-free garage).

Water requirement icon Water Demand

The olive tree is drought tolerant, but requires regular watering during the growing season (spring to late summer). Allow the top layer of potting soil to dry out thoroughly between waterings to prevent the roots from remaining wet for too long, which can lead to root rot. Well-draining potting soil (such as special Mediterranean soil) and a pot with drainage holes are crucial. During the winter months and cold periods, the tree requires significantly less water.
