The Olea Europaea, better known as the Olive Tree, is an iconic and ancient tree belonging to the olive family (Oleaceae). This variety is famous worldwide as a symbol of peace, prosperity and Mediterranean life. The 'Lorc' variety is known for its robust growth and beautiful, distinctive appearance.

It is an evergreen, slow-growing and vivacious tree that falls under the category of Mediterranean and exotic trees. With its silver-green leaves and robust trunk, it is a timeless eye-catcher in any outdoor space.

It is an architectural tree that develops a thick, often whimsical trunk as it ages, with a full crown of dense, narrow leaves. It is much loved for its historic appearance, silvery color and its ability to thrive in dry and sunny conditions.

The Olea Europaea Lorc has small, leathery, oblong leaves with a distinctive silvery sheen on the underside, creating a beautiful, glistening crown in sunlight. The trunk is thick, woody and becomes increasingly gnarled and jagged as the tree ages, giving it its unique, ancient and robust character.

Location icon Location

The Olive Tree is the ultimate Mediterranean addition to your garden, patio or balcony. It needs a lot of sunlight and thrives best in a warm, sunny and well-drained location. Outdoors: This is the olive tree's natural habitat. Place it in the sunniest and warmest spot you can provide. Although the Olea Europaea possesses reasonable winter hardiness, pots in the Benelux countries should be given extra protection or temporarily moved to a light, cool indoor area during severe frosts (below -10°C) to protect the root ball. Indoor (Wintering): If the tree overwinters indoors, provide a light and unheated space (between 2°C and 10°C) to encourage dormancy and reduce leaf fall.

Water requirement icon Water Demand

The Olive tree is very resistant to drought, but it does need water, especially if it is in a pot. Water when the soil in the pot has almost completely dried up. Make sure the tree is not constantly standing with its roots in water, as this can lead to root rot. In the open ground, extra watering is often only necessary during prolonged, very dry and hot periods.
