Nerium Oleander, commonly known as the Oleander, is a popular and ornamental flowering shrub belonging to the periwinkle family (Apocynaceae). This shrub is native to a wide area from North Africa to eastern Asia, but has become especially synonymous with Mediterranean landscapes.

It is an evergreen, densely branched and lushly flowering shrub that falls under the category of exotic and Mediterranean plants. The white variety is an elegant appearance that will give your garden or patio a fresh, summer look.

It is a robust and fast-growing shrub that flowers profusely with bright white, fragrant flowers that appear over a long period in summer. The shrub has long, leathery, dark green leaves that retain their color throughout the year. Please note that all parts of the Oleander are poisonous if ingested.

Appearance icon Appearance

The Nerium Oleander is characterized by its long, narrow, gray-green to dark-green leaves arranged in groups of three around the branches. The shrub forms dense clusters of beautiful, funnel-shaped, white flowers at the end of the branches, which are a real eye-catcher. Flowering is rich and prolonged, contributing to the plant's exotic and lush appearance.

Location icon Location

The Nerium Oleander is a real sunbather and is perfect for creating a Mediterranean atmosphere on your patio or balcony. It needs plenty of sunlight and does best in a sunny, well-drained and preferably sheltered location. Outdoors: This is the ideal spot for the Oleander. Place it in a spot where it catches direct sunlight all day. Because of its low winter hardiness, it is crucial that Oleanders in pots be moved in the fall to a frost-free, cool and light overwintering place, such as a greenhouse or shed. Indoors (Overwintering): During the winter months, provide a bright, well-ventilated room where the temperature remains between 5°C and 10°C.

Water requirement icon Water Demand

The Oleander is accustomed to warm, dry climates, but surprisingly needs quite a lot of water, especially in pots during the hottest summer months. The soil may be slightly moist constantly, but make sure that excess water can drain well. In winter, when the plant is dormant, water considerably less. Overwatering is harmful, but so is dehydration during the flowering period.
