Vinca major 'Alba', also known as Greater Periwinkle, is an excellent and popular evergreen ground cover, often regarded as the more vigorous sibling of Vinca minor. This variety is distinguished by its larger leaves and robust, upright, and spreading growth habit, making it perfect for quickly covering larger areas, slopes, or as elegant underplanting in shady borders.

Features: The 'Alba' retains its large, glossy, deep green leaves throughout the year, providing continuous structure and a fresh look in the garden. It is hardy, very strong, and has the great advantage of effectively suppressing weeds due to its rapid growth. During spring and early summer, it treats you to large, bright white flowers that light up beautifully in the shade. Its vigorous nature also makes it very easy to maintain; one pruning per year is sufficient to keep it in check.

Vinca major 'Alba' is characterized by its large, oval leaves with a healthy sheen. Compared to other periwines, both the leaves and flowers are considerably larger. From April to June, pure white, star-shaped flowers appear, forming a beautiful contrast with the dark foliage. The plant reaches a height of approximately 25 to 30 centimeters, giving it slightly more body in the garden than the lower varieties.

This large periwinkle is an ideal candidate for a spot in partial shade to shade. Although it can also thrive in sunnier spots (provided the soil does not dry out completely), it is particularly suitable for filling difficult, dark corners in the garden. The 'Alba' has few soil requirements and grows almost anywhere, as long as the soil is moderately fertile and sufficiently well-drained.

Once established, this plant is highly resistant to dry periods thanks to its strong root system. This makes it very suitable for the often dry soil found under large trees or shrubs.
