Isotoma fluviatilis, also known as blue star carpet or creeping star, is an excellent and popular ground cover plant that is highly valued for its lush, flower-filled carpet. This variety is distinguished by its extremely low growth and exuberant summer flowering, making it the ideal choice for rock gardens, filling gaps between stepping stones, or as an ornamental and walkable alternative within the lawn.

Characteristics: The blue star mat forms a dense, soft mat only 3 to 5 centimeters high, providing a green base all year round. It is hardy, robust, and has the great advantage of thriving in damp conditions, for example along pond edges or in damp gardens. From June to September, the plant is adorned with a sea of delicate blue star flowers. Thanks to its dense growth habit, it is an efficient plant for quickly covering larger areas with color.

Isotoma fluviatilis is characterized by its tiny, fresh green leaves that together form an even and compact cushion. During its long flowering period from June to September, the plant is almost completely covered with small, light blue star-shaped flowers. The plant spreads horizontally via creeping stems, allowing it to perfectly follow the contours of stones or paths without ever growing too tall. Tip: Because this plant remains so low and can withstand light foot traffic, it is perfect for use as a "living joint" between patio stones that you regularly walk on barefoot.

This starwort is ideal for a spot in full sun to partial shade. Although it tolerates some shade, the sunnier the spot, the more abundant the flowering. Isotoma fluviatilis has few soil requirements, provided it does not dry out completely; the plant therefore thrives in spots where the soil naturally retains more water.

Isotoma fluviatilis has moderate to high water requirements. It is essential that the soil remains constantly slightly moist, especially during hot summer months when the plant puts all its energy into flowering.
