The power of corten steel border edging
A garden is a place of life and growth. But sometimes the grass grows just a little too enthusiastically into the flower beds, or the divide between your lawn and the parkway becomes a messy mess. Recognizable? Then it's time to get acquainted with the most stylish and sustainable solution of the moment: corten steel edging.
What is corten steel anyway?
Most likely you are already familiar with corten steel, because otherwise you might not have gotten bogged down on our website, but we still want to refresh your memories.
Corten steel is a special type of metal known for its distinctive, rust-brown color. But don't let the word"rust" scare you away! With corten steel, this is precisely its superpower. The steel forms a very dense, protective layer of rust on the outside, completely sealing off the inner steel from the elements. As a result, it does not rust through like regular steel. The result? An extremely strong material with a beautiful, natural and warm appearance.
How does it work as a border edge?
The idea is as simple as it is effective. Corten steel border edges are long, thin strips of steel that you place vertically in the ground, right at the border where you want separation. This creates a physical barrier between your lawn and your landscaping, for example.
Installation is surprisingly easy:
-
Determine the line: First, lay the edges above the ground where you want them. That way you can see exactly how the line will run. Of course, it is advisable to first measure how many border edges you need. Our border edges are 2.30 meters long.
-
Make a trench: Using a spade, poke a narrow trench into the ground.
-
Place the edges: Place the corten steel borders in the trench. Our border edges have simple ground pegs and coupling plates to set the border edges firmly in the ground and connect them together.
-
Tapping and finishing: Gently tap the edges to the correct height with a rubber mallet and backfill the soil on both sides. Done!
The steel is flexible enough to make soft, gentle bends. If you want to make a hard bend of 45 or 90 degrees, we have special coupling plates for that.
Why is this the perfect solution for your garden?
Corten steel is more than just a beautiful addition. It solves some common gardening problems and offers a range of benefits:
- The ultimate separation: The most important function is barrier. The roots of the grass cannot grow under the border edge, so your lawn finally stops where it needs to stop. Your yard stays free of unwanted grass blades.
- Extremely durable and maintenance-free: Whereas wooden edges rot after a few years and plastic edges can become brittle from the sun, Corten steel lasts for decades. Once installed, you have nothing to worry about.
- A Sleek and Natural Look: The warm, earthy rust color blends perfectly with the green of plants and the brown of the earth. It creates a clear line without appearing harsh or unnatural. It gives your garden a professional, manicured look.
- Makes gardening easier: Mowing your lawn becomes a piece of cake. You can simply drive your wheel along the steel edge without fear of damaging the plants. Wood chips, soil or pebbles also stay neatly in place in the yard.
So if you are looking for a one-time investment that will make your garden not only more beautiful, but also easier to maintain, then corten steel border edging is the ideal choice. It is the perfect combination of design, functionality and durability.

Difference between crushed, straight or set border edges
1. Straight border edge: The flexible all-rounder
This is the simplest and most versatile variety. It is a pure, flat strip of steel.
- Appearance: Minimalist and sleek. You only see the thin edge of the steel.
- Flexibility: Very flexible. You can easily bend this border to create undulating paths, organic shapes or rounded borders.
- Application: Perfect for almost any garden shape. Whether you want dead straight lines or playful, natural curves, with the straight variety, it's all possible.
Choose this one if: You want maximum freedom in designing curves and round shapes.
2. Set border edge: The robust corner maker
With a set border edge, the top of the strip is folded (converted) at a 90-degree angle. This creates an L-profile with a flat top edge several centimeters wide.
- Appearance: Very robust, sleek and powerful. The wide top edge gives a solid, finished look.
- Flexibility: Not flexible. The folded edge makes bending impossible. This edge is for straight lines and tight corners only.
- Application: Ideal for creating raised borders, vegetable garden containers, or as a very tight partition along a patio or driveway. The extra strength is a big advantage here.
Choose this one if: You need only dead straight lines and want an extra solid, visible edge.
3. Flattened border edge: The luxurious middle ground
A crushed border edge is the perfect intermediate form. Here, the top edge is first folded over and then flattened (flattened). This results in a thickened, rounded and smooth top edge.
- Appearance: Refined and luxurious. The edge is not sharp like the straight version, but more subtle than the wide set edge. It gives a high-quality finish.
- Flexibility: Somewhat flexible. It is less pliable than the straight variety, but you can make slight undulations and gentle turns with it just fine.
- Application: Perfect if you want the security and more finished look of a folded edge, but still want the ability to follow slight curves in your garden design.
Choose this one if: You want a finished, secure edge that can still make gentle turns.
